This is my master's thesis project for interactive media. I chose to do an interactive documentary as a way of combining my journalism background with the web design skills that I was learning in the program. Usher Syndrome is the leading cause of deaf-blindness.

To build this site I first researched what Usher Syndrome is and the effects it has on the people who live with it. One of those effects is a condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa that causes the visual field to be narrowed. I used the Skrollr.js parallax plugin to create a series of images that show this narrowing and walk the user through the different effects that Retinitis Pigmentosa has on a person's sight.

I also talked to some people who have Usher Syndrome and asked them to send me photos and stories of their experience that I put on a different part of the site. I had intended for this to continue to grow over time as new stories were added, but because I did not devote a lot of time to advertising or project promotion, there are only a few stories.

The site was built on Wordpress and uses a variety of custom pages for the various sections. There is also an audio section where the user can hear some of the effects of deafness.

The project was very well-received in the Usher Syndrome community, especially the section on Retinitis Pigmentosa.
